Lohri is known as the financial new year for all the Punjabi farmers. Lohri is traditionally associated with the harvest of the rabi crops as the perfect time to harvest sugarcane crops is January. People consume til (sesame seeds) and rorhi (jaggery) on the day of Lohri as it is considered auspicious. Children sing various songs including Dulha Bhatti, a Punjabi version of Robin Hood and collect money from elders. In the evening, a bonfire is lit and everyone gathers around it. People worship the bonfire by offering food including peanuts, popcorn and sweets made of til-chirva, gajak and revri.
